The buyer must assume all risk of death and/or injury on cattle that
return to J&C after the sale for delivery. J&C will do everything
possible to care for cattle returning to our farm. It is in the best
interest of you, the buyer, to insure your cattle. Insurance will be
available from sale clerks in the office. Two months at 3%; three
months at 3.5%; six months at 4%, on year at 6%. Billing for
insurance will be done by Harding and Harding. Cattle are considered
insured when request is made at the sale office.
Liability...
Neither the sale host J&C & Guest Consignors, Auctioneer or Fremont
assume any liability for any accidents which may occur.
Delivery...
Cow/Calves, Bred Cows, Bred heifers & Open Heifers...
Because of such a large sale and number of pairs and close breds, we
cannot offer delivery for the entire offering. J&C Simmentals firmly
believes these pairs and breds with close dates should go directly
to the new owners on sale day or the day after. Bringing them back
to J&C adds to the stress and we really don’t have the proper room.
We ask your cooperation in this matter in the best interest of the
pairs, bred cows and heifers in this J&C Simmental sale. The above
will apply unless prior arrangements are made.
Bulls...
The J&C sale offers $100 per head cash discount to buyers of bulls
on loaded out sale day or day after sale. Free delivery to Nebraska
buyers. Free delivery to buyers from other states within 250 mile
radius of J&C, provided the total purchase price is $1,500 or more.
Cooperation to other states. Normal feed and care charges apply on
all animals after April 1st .

Welcome to the 12th
Annual J&C Sale. It continues to be a great time to be in the cattle
business. The possession of beef cows has been good and it appears
that the future is going to be better. I don’t believe the opinion
that the cow numbers are inflated; especially when one is out in the
dry areas northwest of J&C Simmentals.
We at J&C are proud of the entire offering from purebreds to
percentage. The motto at J&C is “the quality of the cattle is more
important than the percentage”. You will find great cattle in all
the percentages and all the purebreds. All bulls and open heifers
are held for this sale. We moved the J&C sale date to February 3rd
in an effort to get the sale bred heifers calving earlier in the
season. The bred heifers will start to calve in mid February, which
parallels the majority of calving programs. The bull ultrasound data
will be taken just before the sale. This will allow for the best
data for our customers. Actual weight and data will be available
sale day on the supplement sheet by lot number.
J&C again offers free delivery on bulls. We will provide $100 cash
per bull on those taken sale day or the day after. All females are
the responsibility of the buyer. We encourage bulls returning to J&C
to be insured. Please read details on delivery terms on the next
page.
All of the families at J&C are depended upon to make the cattle
operation work. Life is fragile so handle with care! I hope by sale
date Jeanette’s knee will be completely healed because, as usual,
she will be very busy with making sale day lunch a great one.
Come view the cattle in Fremont on Friday, February 2nd. All animals
will be tagged and penned. Sale day, Saturday, February 3rd, will
begin with coffee and rolls at 9:00 a.m. Lunch will be served at
11:00 a.m. and the sale will start at 12:30 p.m. Sale order will be
bulls, donkeys, bred females and open heifers.
Call Bob at 800-804-9441 before the sale if you have any questions.
On sale day call Bob at 402-720-0469 or Jay at 402-720-7596. We’ll
be happy to visit with you.

Glossary...
1.Actual Weight... Taken 1-22-07 (the day the bulls were
ultrasounded) by CUP Technician, Toby Muller, Adair, Iowa.
2.No Gain/Day test this year. Bulls come from too many sources and
backgrounds (I.E.: different pastures conditions, some creep
fed-some not, some cattle pushed for summer shows-some not, etc). We
use WW & YW adjusted weights and EPDs for WW & YW.
3.REA... Ultra sound measurement of the rib eye area expressed in
square inches at the 12th & 13th rib. Adjusted to 365 days of age.
4.Fat... Actual back fat measurement taken at the 12th & 13th rib by
ultra sound on 1-22-07 rump fat adjusted by the ASA.
5.Marbling... Amount and distribution of intramuscular fat present
in the rib eye at the 12th and 13th rib. Expressed as a percentage
out of
100%.
6.Marbling Adjusted... Percents marbling of lean area measured and
adjusted to 365 days of age. Normal range 2 to 5 percent.
7.Scrotal Measurement of Bulls... Will be take at semen check on
January 26 and published by Lot number at sale on the sale order
sheet. These will be actual measurements taken by Loren Vogler,
Vogler Seen Center, Ashland, Neb.
8.ASA 2005 EPD Breed Averages are... CE 5.7 • BW 2.0 • WW 33 • YW 58
• MCE 2 • MM 5 • MWW 22 • CWT -2.8 • YG 0 • Marb. 0.07
Fat Rib 0.01 • REA -0.04
9.Carcass EPDs CW on Each Lot... The hot carcass weight of a bull’s
progeny. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds an
adjusted to a slaughter age of 475 days. The EPD predicts the
difference in average carcass weight of a bull’s progeny compared to
progeny of all other bulls evaluated. A positive value indicates
heavier than average carcass weights while a negative value (-)
indicates lower than average carcass weights.
10.Yield Grade (YG) Yield Grade Score... An estimate of the yield of
closely trimmed, boneless retail cuts from the round, loin, rib, and
the chuck. Expected progeny performance is reported in percent and
adjusted to a slaughter age of 475 days. The EPD predicts the
difference in average carcass cutability with values great then zero
indicating higher than average percentage yield in yield grade white
a negative (-) indicates less than average percentage yield in yield
grade.
11.Marbling Score on Each lot... A subjective evaluation of the
amount of distribution of intramuscular fat. Degree of marbling is
evaluated
in the ribeye muscle between the 12th and 13th rib and is a major
factor in determining USDA quality grad. Expected progeny
performance is reported in tenths of a marbling score and adjusted
to a slaughter age of 475 days. The EPD value predicts the
difference in average marbling score of a bull’s progeny compared to
progeny of all other evaluated bulls. A positive value indicates
higher than average marbling scores while a negative value (-)
indicates lower than average marbling scores.
12.J&C Used Genmark to check homozygous black cattle. Those listed
as Genmark Homo Black are homozygous black.
